Illinois high school newspapers and student journalists took their place among the nation’s best at the 2015 JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention, held Nov. 12-15 in Orlando, Fla.

Leading the way was Omega (online version here), the student newspaper of Downers Grove North High School. Omega won an NSPA Newspaper Pacemaker in the Broadsheet 8 or Fewer Pages category.

The Pacemaker is NSPA’s highest honor for a student publication.

This year’s award recognized the work done by the 2014-15 Omega staff, whose top editors were Simone Burns, Nicole Williams and 2015 IJEA All-State Journalism Team member Rachel Krusenoski.

Elizabeth Levin and Erc Landschoot advised the paper.

Also at the convention, NSPA announced the winners of its annual Individual Awards contests and the results of its Fall 2015 Best of Show competition.
