Fall Conference

We are delighted to announce that our
2023 IJEA Fall Conference will be held Friday, Sept. 29,
at Illinois State University’s Bone Student Center

We have reached our capacity — thank you to everyone who will be attending!
Although the location of this year’s conference will be new, we will continue to feature a keynote speech by a noted figure in the profession, as well as multiple breakout sessions throughout the day covering all aspects of journalism. Students will also have the opportunity to compete in our popular on-site competitions.
Illinois State University’s Bone Student Center is located at 100 N. University St. in Normal. You can find more information about the center, including parking directions and floor plans, at this link.
2023 Fees & Parking Info
Advisers: $20 attendance fee. Additional advisers attending who are from the same school (not district) are free.
Students: $5 attendance fee.
Parking: Car and small bus parking adjacent to the Bone Student Center is $1 per hour. Full-sized buses may drop students off at the Bone Center and park in a nearby free off-site lot.
Payment: Checks are accepted at the registration table during check-in at the conference. Checks should be made out to Illinois Journalism Education Association.
Keynote Speakers:
Daily Northwestern Staffers Who Covered NU’s Football Hazing Scandal
Come and hear from the student reporters from the Daily Northwestern at Northwestern University who played a crucial role in revealing new details about the football hazing scandal at the university this summer. We’ll have the Daily Northwestern staffers as our keynote speakers.
What You Can Expect
The day will begin with our keynote speakers, followed by breakout sessions, lunch and more breakout sessions:
• Keynote speaker — 9:15 a.m.
• Session I — 10:15 to 11 a.m.
• Session II — 11:15 to noon
• Lunch — noon to 1:15 p.m.
• Session III — 1:15 to 2 p.m.
Sessions will include tips and advice on:
• Broadcast Journalism
• Print and Editorial Journalism
• Yearbook Design and Writing
• Digital Reporting
• Journalism Preparation for College
