  • It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sarah Doerner, IJEA’s longest-serving president. Sarah died Nov. 29 in Du Quoin at the age of 86. Services were held Dec. 7. We will be publishing a tribute to this great journalism educator in the coming days.

The deadline for the 2014 IJEA Newspaper Contest is March 21. Both print and online papers are encouraged to submit their best work from March 2013 to March 2014. Download an entry form.

2013 contest adds five new categories; deadline set for March 23

The annual IJEA Newspaper Contest, with a March 23 deadline, has five new categories this year, three to answer the growing number of high school newspapers in Illinois that have gone online.

The new categories are headlines, centerspreads, blogging, multimedia packages and overall websites.

All IJEA members can enter their students’ work. All advisers can be IJEA members. Click here for a membership form. Membership is $10.
