IHSA reminder: Feb. 1 is the deadline to sign up for the 2017 tournament

Does your school intend to compete in this year’s IHSA journalism tournament? If so, the deadline to enter your school into the competition is Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Check with your school’s principal or athletic director to see if they have already signed up your journalism team for the tournament.

If they haven’t, then either you or they must visit the IHSA Schools Center on the IHSA website. The 2016-17 Entry Policies and Procedures outlining the online entry procedures for all IHSA-sponsored tournaments can be found there.

If you are tasked with signing up your team, you will need a user ID and password to login to the Schools Center. Your AD or AD’s assistant can provide you with the necessary login information.

Any attempt to enter your school online after the established deadline will be denied. Schools that wish to enter after the deadline will be considered late.

To be considered for late entry, your school’s principal/official representative must contact the IHSA administrator in charge of journalism, Matt Troha. The penalty for late entry is $100.

The 2017 tournament will begin with sectionals on Saturday, April 22, at locations around the state. The locations will be announced later this spring.

The state final will be held Friday, April 28, at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
