Please mark your calendars and keep an eye on your high school mailbox for a postcard that is on its way announcing the 2014 IJEA Fall Conference coming up Friday, September 12th at the Illini Union on the U of I campus.  This important postcard will provide guidance on how to register for the conference online and how to get information about the sessions being offered, parking options, directions and maps.

Our keynote speaker is Marco Santana, technology reporter for the Des Moines Register.  His beat is innovation!

The conference theme this year is, Energize Your Staff!  Elevate Your Skills! And for the very first time we are offering the option of specialized tracks to help yearbook, newspaper and media advisers and their students sharpen their proficiency in selected areas of interest and skill.
What’s your passion?  We have the track.

  • Exceptional Advising
  • Multimedia & Photography
  • Reporting, Writing, Editing & Research
  • Design
  • Advertising Sales & Promotion.
  • Or throw caution to the wind and go with the flow with any of our 30+ session offerings.

Please see the conference website for information on participating in a special Feature Writing Competition.

Register online at the IJEA Conference website.  The website will be updated continually with titles and descriptions of all the sessions including special topics on team building, using social media to promote your publication, fundraising, review writing, techniques for interviewing politicians, writing great features on ordinary life, exceptional photography, creating amazing info graphics as well as covering high school sports, newspaper and yearbook design, advertising sales and much more.

Please note: our capacity for attendance this year is 600 students and advisers.

To reserve your spot at the conference please register by September 5, 2014.

The admission fee for early registration is $15 per person either in advance or at the door.  For those who register after 9/5/14, if there is still space available, the cost is $17 per person.

For those who have students who would like to take a tour of our College of Media broadcast facilities (Richmond Hall) please reserve the spaces by emailing me in advance. Capacity is 15.

I look forward to seeing you at the IJEA Fall Conference on Friday, September 12, 2014.  Have a great summer!
